DART
It is the DART Program's mission to provide direct comprehensive and integrated services to meet the needs of individuals diagnosed with opiate dependence and to evaluate the need for opiate dependent treatment. Imbedded in this cause is the provision of services in professional and humanistic treatment environment in which clients are treated with dignity and respect and are encouraged to work towards recognition and insight into their addiction as a lifelong process.
Since 1971, the CAO DART Program has treated individuals addicted to opiate drugs using a variety of rehabilitating services, and through linkages with other human services providers. The DART treatment team consists of a medical director, nursing, counseling, and administrative staff who specialize in treating individuals addicted to opiates.

DART Programs & Services
The DART Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program uses methadone to relieve withdrawal symptoms and cravings to enable clinical intervention designed to assist the client's ability to function through a series of productive life style changes. Methadone has a long history of treatment reliability among the many current forms of drug treatment available.
Eligibility
The DART clinic serves all of Erie County, with more than 90% of the enrollees residing in the City of Buffalo. Applicants must:
* Verify a history of at least one year of opiate use,
* Verify prior participation in one drug-free treatment experience, and
* Be at least 18 years of age.
Referrals are confidential and can be made to a member of our intake staff, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. − 4:00 p.m.).
DART Accomplishments
Through our outcome tracking procedures, DART has verified the following client successes:
* 83% of our clients have established and maintained a period of abstinence from all drug use during the past year,
* 12% have improved their housing situation,
* 10% have secured and maintained employment, and
* More than 80% of DART's clients are very satisfied with the treatment they received at DART (according to a 2007 survey).
Note: These results are significant when compared to the client's level of life dysfunction when admitted.
Our Plans for the Future
DART will continue to respond to the needs of the chemically dependent individual through the expansion of services such as:
* Support groups targeted to specific treatment needs (e.g., women's issues, relapse prevention),
* Peer support (establishing an onsite methadone anonymous support group), and
* Expanding service agreements with other agencies who provide support services aimed at enhancing the client's self-sufficiency, productivity, and sobriety.
